- The WSJ learned about Israel's dissatisfaction with the late announcement of the truce between the United States and Iran
The Israeli authorities were unhappy not only with the decision to cease fire between the United States and Iran, but also with the fact that Tel Aviv was confronted with the fact of making a decision on a truce. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote about this on April 9, citing sources.
"The Israeli authorities were not satisfied with the terms [of the ceasefire], including the possible inclusion of Lebanon in the deal. <...> According to a White House official, the discussion of the cease-fire was limited to a telephone conversation between President [of the United States Donald] Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly before the agreement was announced," the material says.
At the same time, the source of the publication clarified that Netanyahu gave his consent to Trump to participate in the peace agreement, but he was extremely unhappy with the possible extension of the truce to Lebanon, since Tel Aviv pursues different goals in conflicts with Tehran and Beirut.
On the night of April 8, Trump announced that he had agreed to suspend strikes on Iran for another two weeks. The condition for this was the complete unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has received a 10-point proposal from Iran to resolve the conflict. At the same time, the head of the White House declared his readiness to resume hostilities against Iran if the United States could not conclude an agreement.
The Reuters news agency reported on the same day that the Iranian authorities may partially open the Strait of Hormuz next Thursday or Friday, before the start of negotiations with U.S. representatives in Islamabad. It was clarified that in case of resumption of navigation, all vessels will necessarily need coordination with the Iranian military.
