In Russia, the cake has increased in price by 19%
This year, compared with 2025, prices for almost all Easter goods increased by an average of 8.3%, with the exception of yeast and flour. Kontur analysts told Izvestia about this on April 9, having studied 4.9 million receipts for products traditionally purchased during Easter week in order to assess demand and price fluctuations.
The most noticeable price increases were observed for eggs (30.1%), egg dyes (24.7%), cakes (18.9%) and raisins (12.3%). Most likely, the reason is seasonality and preparation for the holiday.
At the same time, there is a decrease in consumer demand by a total of 10%. The demand for flour, egg dyes, milk, sugar and sour cream decreased especially strongly. However, demand for the most sought-after holiday goods remains steady and is even increasing.
Interestingly, the picture differs by region, and quite noticeably. For example, on average in Russia, cakes have risen in price by 19% with a constant level of demand. At the same time, demand increased in some regions (Bashkortostan +7%; Krasnoyarsk Territory +36%, Moscow +27%, Sverdlovsk Region +26%), while in others, on the contrary, demand decreased (Tyumen Region — 35%; Rostov Region — 6%, Perm Region — 18%).
It can be assumed that some Russians in these regions prefer to cook their own cakes rather than buy ready-made ones.
On April 8, ATOL analysts said that a ready-made Easter cake in a store can be purchased for an average of 161 rubles. At the same time, the average purchase receipt increased by only 2% compared to the same period last year. However, the average receipt for the purchase of stickers increased by 17% to 35 rubles per package.
On the same day, nutritionist, PhD Margarita Koroleva recommended choosing traditional cakes weighing about 500 g, noting that they retain their taste better and do not dry out as quickly as small ones. According to the nutritionist, it is important to pay attention to the composition: it should not contain any incomprehensible ingredients.
