Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Investment and economic cooperation with Foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said on April 9 that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte was unable to defend the interests of the alliance.

"The failed Rutte has failed to defend the failed NATO," Dmitriev wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

This is how Dmitriev commented on a segment of Rutte's interview with the American television channel CNN, in which the Secretary General of the alliance criticizes NATO countries that did not support the United States in Operation Epic Fury. Rutte spoke to American journalists after meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. He noted that Trump was "obviously disappointed."

On April 6, the American leader spoke about saying goodbye to NATO during a period of disagreement with the alliance over Greenland. The US president also added that the stain that appeared after the alliance refused to help Washington in the operation against Iran "will never disappear."

On April 1, Trump announced that he was seriously considering the US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to help in the conflict with Iran. According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance has never influenced him.
