After the start of the two-week truce between the United States and Iran, Izvestia on April 9 for the first time showed the situation on Kharq Island in the Persian Gulf, which is the main hub of Iran's oil exports. The situation on the island is stable now, correspondent Nasser Ashkeri reported.

"Perhaps, as journalists, we are the first ones who were able to get here by sea after the ceasefire," the correspondent stressed.

At the same time, the island itself is completely closed to the public due to security regulations. Filming is allowed only in special locations. Khark is considered uninhabited, but about 500-1000 indigenous people live on its territory.

According to one of the local residents, the situation remains calm and safe at the moment. He pointed out that there were no sounds of fighting. When asked about Iran's readiness for a truce "at any cost," the man said that he did not consider such an outcome for the republic, since a complete cease-fire was necessary.

"At any price, no, it should be fair. If they start bombing us again, no. The United States should withdraw from this region," the man shared.

In addition, Ashkeri added that oil tankers are now waiting to be loaded in the waters of the island, which makes it the center of the economic and geopolitical life of the region. More than 80% of all oil supplies are carried out from this island. The journalist noted that Iran was able to resist the pressure of the United States and Israel without external help, which indicates its regional importance.

Yesterday, Ashkeri noted that there is an active movement of ships in the Persian Gulf according to the schedule, the ports are doing their job. He reported that the loading of goods is also carried out in accordance with the schedule and compliance with security measures.

On the night of April 8, American leader Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to suspend strikes on Iran for another two weeks. The condition for this was the complete unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has received a 10-point proposal from Iran to resolve the conflict. At the same time, Trump declared his readiness to resume hostilities against Iran if the United States could not conclude an agreement that would suit.
