The geographer named the possible consequences of a dam break in Dagestan
The breakthrough of the Gejukhsky reservoir dam in Dagestan caused the destruction of a large area of riverine forests and shrubs. This was announced on April 9 by Candidate of Geographical Sciences Idris Idrissov.
"A large area of riverine forests and shrubs down the valley was destroyed. Mud masses could clog a small riverbed of the Darvagchai River near the sea and cause local spills there," he told RIA Novosti.
Idrissov noted that it is necessary to monitor and "ensure the discharge of such reservoirs." In addition, according to the geographer, the erosion of the dam site could occur due to heavy rains in the spring. Precipitation fell on already wet soils after the extreme precipitation of the autumn-winter period.
