Tuberculosis can lead to cognitive and mental disorders. This was announced on April 9 by a psychiatrist, an expert of the social project "Dementia.net" Maria Shtan.

"Most often, as a result of tuberculosis, borderline mental disorders are noted, manifested in the form of asthenia (asthenic symptom complex) or affective disorders. In other words, it can manifest itself in the form of pathological fatigue or too intense and persistent emotions, from euphoria to deep sadness," the expert shared during an interview with the newspaper.Ru».

The expert explained that such patients may have memory problems, learning difficulties, and impaired concentration when doing work.

Shtan noted that some studies have found a link between the development of severe memory impairment and the toxic manifestation of the tuberculosis process itself, as well as addiction to alcohol or drugs. The risk of cognitive consequences in the elderly is much higher than in young people, the specialist added.

"This is due to acquired chronic pathology of cerebral vessels with impaired blood circulation (vascular genesis) or metabolism (dysmetabolic genesis). The duration of recovery is affected by the slow metabolism that appears in old age," the psychiatrist concluded.

On April 5, University of Kentucky specialist Colt Pruitt explained how to distinguish normal soreness after exercise from alarming symptoms that require medical attention. The expert clarified that to relieve short-term joint pain at home, it is recommended to alternate rest with moderate activity, apply ice to the affected joint for 10-15 minutes several times a day and do stretching.
