On April 9, Ekaterina Makarova, a psychotherapist and expert at the Doktor TV channel, told how to recognize the symptoms of burnout in people who are prone to workaholism.

"Many of us have grown up a long time ago, but mentally we continue to live in the school coordinate system. Our psyche retains the old inertia and does not adjust to the rhythm of adult work, where the cycles of stress and rest are arranged quite differently. In such a situation, our "inner child" simply forgets that we are adults. The habit remains the same: in the spring, you need to push harder, pass all the "exams" and reports, and give out a super result. But in adulthood, this breakthrough is not followed by a three—month carefree summer — overexertion only continues to accumulate until the body finally gives up," she said in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».

According to the expert, seasonal vitamin deficiency plays a big role in the likely burnout. After a long winter, the body remains weakened and does not have time to restore resources, but with the advent of the sun, the brain stimulates increased activity. As a result, there is a discrepancy between the energy level and the actual capabilities of the body, which increases the risk of rapid emotional and physical fatigue.

Burnout does not appear suddenly, it gradually begins with changes in behavior. First of all, sleep suffers: psychotherapists describe the phenomenon of "sleep postponement", when a person watches TV shows late into the night, unconsciously postponing the start of a new day.

It is noted that there are a number of aspects that are worth paying attention to: lack of strength to "turn off" the brain after work, mood swings, distance in social relationships, sleep, which does not restore strength. The body gives more serious signals at the level of body symptoms, from loss of appetite to headaches.

"People who have a poorly functioning dopamine system are prone to workaholism. They need a constant external challenge and confirmation that they are doing well. But it is important to learn how to get this dopamine not only from reports, but also from sports, hobbies or communication, rejoicing in even the smallest victories over oneself," explained Makarova.

If a person feels emotionally exhausted and approaching the limit of their abilities, it is important to build recovery as consistently as work tasks. According to the therapist, in such situations, a systematic approach to the regime and daily habits is necessary.

The specialist recommends that a few hours before bedtime you completely exclude interaction with work chats, computer and smartphone in order to give the nervous system a signal about the end of the day, give up coffee, energy drinks and other stimulating drinks at least four hours before rest, if you are tired, you should not overload the body with intense workouts. According to the expert, special attention should be paid to reviewing attitudes to work. Profession should not become the only center of life and the main source of self-esteem.

The expert noted that a sharp deterioration in the quality of life, decreased concentration, pronounced forgetfulness and emotional instability may indicate the need for professional help. In such cases, contacting a psychotherapist allows you to stabilize the condition in a timely manner and prevent further deterioration.

Veronika Akhmetova, a psychologist and member of the Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, reported on March 11 that working with artificial intelligence (AI) can cause depression and burnout among employees if interaction with the system is not built correctly. According to her, frequent interaction with AI can lead to depression and emotional burnout for several reasons. First of all, this is due to the loss of the meaning of work.

On April 3, family psychotherapist and psychologist Olga Kushnareva reported that the habit of staying in touch after the end of the working day is more often associated not with a real need, but with internal psychological attitudes. According to the expert, the desire to respond to messages at any time may be based on anxiety, fear of missing important information, or a desire to meet the expectations of the employer.
