- The economist recalled the increase in pensions in May for some categories of citizens
In May 2026, pensions for five categories of Russians will increase. This was announced on April 9 by Igor Balynin, Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
"Firstly, by presidential decree, payments in the amount of 80 thousand rubles will be made to invalids of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, former minor prisoners of concentration camps, ghettos and other places of forced detention created by the Nazis and their allies during World War II, widows (widowers) of military personnel who died during the war to Finland, the Great Patriotic War, the War with Japan, and to the widows (widowers) of the deceased invalids of the Great Patriotic War and participants in the Great Patriotic War," the economist said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
It is specified that the second category of recipients of increased payments includes citizens who worked in the rear during the period from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945. The increase will also be given to persons awarded orders and medals of the USSR for selfless work during the war, and prisoners of Nazi concentration camps.
The third group will be Russians who celebrated their 80th anniversary in April. According to Balynin, their pension will increase by more than 10 thousand rubles. The growth was ensured by doubling the fixed payment and the appointment of a compensation allowance in the amount of 1,314 rubles.
The fourth category includes members of civil aviation flight crews. The additional payment is due to men with at least 25 years of experience and women who have worked for at least 20 years. When dismissed for health reasons, the length of service requirements are reduced by five years, the expert added.
The fifth category is coal industry workers. Surcharges, as Balynin pointed out, are calculated individually for those who have been mining coal or shale full-time for at least 25 years. Mine builders can apply for similar support measures.
"For individual workers (for example, miners of the sewage treatment plant, tunnellers, etc.), the minimum period of employment for receiving additional payments has been reduced to 20 years," the source added.
The economist clarified that the documents had to be submitted before March 31 for recalculation. This additional payment is transferred simultaneously with the basic pension.
Alexander Safonov, a professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, announced on April 9 that only cosmonauts and test pilots in Russia can claim pension payments of about 500 thousand rubles. It is specified that the amount of payments is calculated based on the official salary and can range from 55 to 86% of the salary.
