In the DPRK, the Academy of Defense Science and the Main Missile Directorate conducted tests of ballistic missiles and electromagnetic weapons systems. This was reported on April 9 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"On April 6, 7 and 8, the Academy of Defense Science of the People's Republic of Korea and the General Missile Directorate conducted tests of electromagnetic weapons systems, tests for scattering projectiles using carbon fiber, tests to verify the combat reliability of short-range mobile anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as tests for combat applicability and evaluation of the power of tactical ballistic missiles with scattering warheads.", — the publication says .

It is specified that the tests were conducted under the leadership of a member of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea and the first deputy head of the department of the Central Committee of the party, Kim Jong-sik.

The Associated Press reported on March 29 that North Korea conducted a ground test of an updated solid-fuel rocket engine, which in turn is capable of reaching the US mainland. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attended the test launches and personally observed what was happening.
