Alexander Ovechkin, the captain of the Washington Capitals hockey club, said on April 8 that he intends to determine his professional future during the offseason.

"We will make a decision in the summer. I need to talk to my family," Ovechkin is quoted as saying on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL) press service.

In addition, the hockey player added that this decision needs to be approached wisely.

On April 7, HC Washington Capitals released a video dedicated to the record of the team's captain, Russian Alexander Ovechkin, in the number of goals scored in the regular NHL championships. Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the National Hockey League regular season on April 6, 2025, against the New York Islanders, breaking Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 goals.
