- A minute of silence will be observed in memory of Mircea Lucescu at the Zenit-Spartak match.
The Russian Cup FONBET match between Zenit and Spartak, which will take place on April 8, will begin with a minute of silence in memory of the former head coach of the St. Petersburg club Mircea Lucescu.
In recent years, the coach was the head coach of the Romanian national team, but on April 2 he left this post. He also coached the Turkish national team, Pisa, Brescia, Reggiana, Inter, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Dynamo Kyiv, Shakhtar Donetsk and Zenit, Sport-Express noted.
Lucescu's death became known earlier that day. This information was also confirmed by agent Arkady Zaporozhanu, who represented the interests of the coach.
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) press service announced Lucescu's emergency hospitalization on March 29. It was clarified that the coach lost consciousness during a technical meeting before training and the subsequent match against the Slovak national team.
Later, on April 3, Lucescu suffered a heart attack. According to the Digi Sport TV channel, the specialist underwent angioplasty, a procedure in which a stent is inserted into a narrowed artery to expand the lumen.
