Orthodox Christians should not consecrate objects intended for smoking and things harmful to health and addictive before Easter, as they cannot be part of the church tradition. This was stated by the head of the Youth Department of the Stavropol Diocese, Alvian Tkhelidze, in an interview with Izvestia.

"It would be inappropriate to highlight cigarettes, including liquids for smoking mixtures and everything that is generally sinful to consume, on a holiday. And the fact that it is not sinful to consume, all this can be blessed for the Easter table," the priest noted.

He added that believers can consecrate any household items. For example, parents often bring bottles, pacifiers, and other items intended for child care to temples along with cakes and eggs. As Tkhelidze noted, such actions are allowed.

"The church has a special prayer for such cases. The priest can be asked to sprinkle holy water and bless this or that thing. However, it is not necessary to do this during the Easter period, it can be done any day," he said.

At the same time, the priest stressed that such objects would not be considered shrines or icons. They will be blessed.

Answering a question about the coverage of alcohol, Tkhelidze said that Orthodox Christians are also allowed to bring various wines to worship services.

"A person drinking blessed cahors at home is no different from a person drinking blessed saperavi at home. In this sense, cahors do not have any special sanctity. You can bring it along with other products, the priest will bless him too. But because of this, alcohol will not become "holy" - it will simply be blessed for the meal," the priest said.

In addition, he also clarified that any alcohol in Christianity is acceptable to drink in moderation.

Earlier, chef and TV presenter Maxim Syrnikov spoke about the tradition of coloring eggs with onion husks. According to him, this method not only conforms to customs, but also improves the taste of the product. This makes the eggs tastier and they give off a pleasant aroma.

Easter in 2026 will be celebrated on April 12. On March 19, the head of the missionary department of the Pesochen diocese, Priest Vladislav Beregovoy, recalled that the date of the holiday is determined according to the lunar-solar calendar and can fall on the period from the beginning of April to the beginning of May. The clergy note the symbolism of Easter's coincidence with Cosmonautics Day, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the holiday and its connection with the idea of overcoming borders.
