A criminal case was opened in Kuzbass after the disappearance of Hero of Russia Alexei Asylkhanov. This was reported on April 8 in the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kemerovo region.

"The investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kemerovo region — Kuzbass are investigating a criminal case into the fact of the unknown disappearance in the city of Yurga of a participant in a special military operation, a Hero of Russia," the agency said in a statement.

According to the investigation, the SVO member left his home in Jurga on April 3, and his whereabouts have not been established to date. Law enforcement officers have examined the missing man's home and are interrogating witnesses. Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, put the investigation under control and instructed the acting head of the regional department to submit a report on the progress of the search.
