Former Abbot Sergius was added to the list of terrorists and extremists in Russia.

Former abbot Sergiy (Nikolai Romanov), convicted of extremism, suicidal tendencies and other crimes, is included in the list of terrorists and extremists in Russia. This was announced on April 8 by the press service of Rosfinmonitoring.

"The list of terrorists and extremists: <...> Nikolai Vasilyevich Romanov, born on 03/19/1955, village of Kriusha, Voznesensky district, Gorky region," the website says.

In the spring of 2020, Sergius, during a sermon, urged citizens not to believe in the coronavirus pandemic and abandon security measures. At the end of May, the diocesan authorities banned him from holding services. As a result, he was detained on December 29, 2020.

In January 2023, the Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow found the former schema monk Sergiy guilty of inciting hatred (paragraph "b" of part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The defendant was sentenced to 5.5 years in a general regime penal colony. On September 7, 2023, the Moscow City Court reduced the prison term by one month.
