On the eve of Easter, thousands of believers flock to the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem to witness with their own eyes one of the most revered Christian miracles — the descent of the Holy Fire. In 2026, this event is expected on April 11. Izvestia will organize a live broadcast of the ceremony in Russian.

The beginning of the descent of the Holy Fire is scheduled for 13:00 Moscow time. It will be possible to watch the events online on the Izvestia website. In addition, the broadcast will be shown live on other federal TV channels.

The Holy flame is called the holy flame, which appears annually on Holy Saturday on the eve of Easter in the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord in Jerusalem, which is considered the burial place of Jesus Christ. Several important Christian shrines are concentrated in this church at once: the Holy Sepulchre, the Stone of Anointing, where, according to legend, the Savior's body was prepared for burial, as well as the world's largest fragment of the Life-giving Cross.

For Orthodox Christians, the appearance of the Holy Fire symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus, the triumph of life over death and truth over falsehood. There is a belief that if the fire does not come down one day, it will be a harbinger of Doomsday. However, no such cases have been recorded in the entire history.

The descent of the Holy Fire itself takes place inside a stone structure in the center of the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord. A pillar of fire appears inside it, from which candles and lamps are then lit.

Earlier, Izvestia talked about unusual ideas to paint eggs for Easter and how to bake cakes.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
