Galina Matskina, a blockade runner and a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), died in Cyprus at the age of 99. This was announced on April 8 at the Russian Embassy of the republic.

"Galina Borisovna belonged to a generation whose fate is inextricably linked with the most tragic and at the same time heroic pages of the history of our country," the ministry said in a statement.
