Polish President Karol Nawrocki has signed a law on the decriminalization of mercenary activities against citizens of the republic who illegally fought in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was announced on April 8 in the office of the head of the country.

"President Karol Nawrocki signed a law <...> that exempts Polish citizens who joined the Ukrainian army from criminal liability between April 2014 and the day the new rules came into force," RIA Novosti reported.

It is specified that until today, Polish citizens had to obtain a special permit from the competent authorities to enter service in another state. Violation of the rule was punishable by imprisonment for up to five years. Later, a law was issued that abolished these norms in relation to citizens who fought on the side of Ukraine.

On March 22, the Governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, announced that there are fewer and fewer foreign mercenaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the region due to the reform of the international Legion units and the reassignment of foreign volunteers to assault units. At the same time, they "do not play a significant role" in the Kherson area.
