- The Russian Foreign Ministry called for preventing the recurrence of man-made military crises
Russia insists on the need to prevent the recurrence of man-made military crises like the conflict over Iran. This was announced on April 8 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We proceed from the fact that as a result, the non—repetition of such military crises, I emphasize, man-made, unprovoked, should be guaranteed," she said at a briefing.
The diplomat stressed that Moscow proceeds from the importance of ensuring long-term peace and collective security in the Middle East region. According to the diplomat, the Russian side intends to continue actively contributing to the achievement of these goals.
Zakharova also said that Russia welcomes the agreement on a temporary cessation of hostilities between the United States and Iran. However, she warned that significant work would be required to resolve the situation definitively.
The official representative of the Foreign Ministry added that in the future, the participants in the process will have serious negotiating activities. The settlement of the conflict, according to Zakharova, should be based on respect for the legitimate rights and interests of all States located in the region.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to suspend strikes on Iran for another two weeks. According to him, this decision was made in connection with the condition of the complete unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also noted that the United States had received a 10-point proposal from Iran to resolve the conflict.
At the same time, Zakharova said on Sputnik radio that the approach of an aggressive, unprovoked attack on Iran had failed.
