A farewell ceremony was held in Reutov, Moscow region, with Alexander Leonov, General Director and Honorary General Designer of the Military Industrial Complex NPO Mashinostroenie. Footage from the farewell ceremony on April 8 is published by Izvestia.
"The memories of this great man, a brilliant designer, and a scientist are only positive. Unfortunately, how much this man has done for the country to strengthen its defense capability will be revealed only after some time <...> But both the Zircon hypersonic missile and the unique Avangard block were tested and created under Alexander Georgievich Leonov, under his direct supervision," the deputy general director of the enterprise told Izvestia. Employees of NPO Mashinostroenie said that Leonov was one of the specialists who were "few in the whole country," especially in the defense industry. Svetlana Fetisova, assistant to the head of the company's design complex, said that Leonov's ideas and ideas will continue to be preserved and follow the course he outlined.
On April 5, the press service of JSC "Military Industrial Complex NPO Mashinostroenie" announced the death of the company's CEO Alexander Leonov. The company's staff expressed their condolences to Leonov's family and friends. He died at the age of 75.
Leonov was born on February 26, 1952 in Morshansk, Tambov region. In 1975, he graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute with a degree in aircraft and from the same year worked at the Central Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering (since 1983 — NPO Mashinostroenie), having worked his way up from a design engineer to the head of the enterprise. He was appointed CEO of the corporation in November 2007.
