The statement by the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres about the absence of justifications for inflicting suffering on civilians in the context of the conflict between Iran and the United States should be universal. This was announced on April 7 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"It's not just about the United States and Iran, is it? This is also about [President of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky, who, from the point of view of the UN Secretary General, cannot justify terrorist attacks against civilians with any military goals — did we understand correctly?" she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Zakharova added that "the universal character of this sacramental phrase" should be fixed. In addition, the diplomat called Guterres' statement his "revelation at the end of his career."

On April 2, Guterres said that the world is on the verge of a larger-scale war in the Middle East, and, based on this, he again called on the United States and Israel to stop their operation against Iran. He noted that the observed escalation has already had devastating economic consequences. In his address, he also called on Iran to stop "attacking its neighbors," as the conflict in which this is happening is already "felt everywhere."
