FT named the amount of US spending on the military operation against Iran
The US military operation against Iran has cost Washington between $22.3 billion and $31 billion in the five weeks since the strikes began in late February. This was reported on April 7 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing former senior Pentagon official Elaine McCusker.
"Elaine McCusker <...> estimates the cost of the campaign against Iran at between $22.3 billion and $31 billion in the five weeks since [US President Donald] Trump ordered the American forces to strike at the end of February," the publication says.
This amount includes the cost of transferring additional units and equipment to the Middle East, which began at the end of December. At the same time, the assessment does not include the full amount of combat damage — data on it is unlikely to be finalized before the end of hostilities.
According to the publication, damaged equipment already accounts for up to $3.6 billion out of the total cost.
The Intercept reported on March 17 that the cost of the current military campaign in Iran could cost the United States $1 trillion if the fighting drags on. In the first two weeks of the operation alone, budget expenditures have already amounted to $12 billion.
