Pope calls threats to Iran unacceptable
On April 7, Pope Leo XIV, during a speech in Italy, called the threats of US President Donald Trump against Iran and its people completely unacceptable.
"There are certainly issues of international law here, but even more important is the moral issue for the benefit of the entire population," NBC News quoted him as saying.
He called on the international community to think about the consequences of a possible military clash for civilians.
The head of the Catholic Church also addressed the citizens of the countries involved in the conflict. Leo XIV called on them to contact their politicians and representatives in order to demand active actions from the authorities to achieve peace.
On the same day, Trump allowed the death of "an entire civilization" with his promised strikes on the territory of Iran. He repeated that "smarter and less radical minds" are now in power in Iran, and expressed hope that "something revolutionary and wonderful" would happen during the day.
The day before, the American president said that the conflict with Iran could end very quickly if Tehran fulfills the necessary conditions. He also called Tuesday, April 7, the last deadline for ending the war. At the same time, Trump considered attacks on Iranian civilian targets acceptable.
