- Iran's permanent representative to the UN predicted an environmental disaster due to the attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant
The attacks by the US and Israeli militaries on Iran's nuclear facilities, including the Bushehr nuclear power plant, will have irreversible environmental consequences. This was announced on April 7 by the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic to the United Nations (UN), Amir Saeed Irawani.
"Any attack on nuclear facilities, in particular on the Bushehr NPP, will inevitably lead to irreversible humanitarian and environmental consequences," the diplomat warned during a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation around Iran.
On April 4, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced a new shelling of the Bushehr nuclear power plant by the United States and Israel. As a result of the blast wave and shrapnel, one of the auxiliary buildings of the NPP was damaged, and one of the employees of the station's physical security department was killed.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, expressed deep concern about another shell hit on the territory of the nuclear power plant. He again called on all sides to exercise maximum military restraint to prevent a nuclear accident.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, in turn, noted that residents of the capitals of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf could suffer from radioactive contamination as a result of the attacks on Bushehr. The Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the position of the international community.
