The way of the Gulf of Hormuz is completely open for the passage of ships, however, ships of states showing aggression against Tehran are prohibited. This was announced on April 7 by Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Amir Saeed Iravani.

"The Strait of Hormuz is currently open," he said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the region.

Iravani stressed that freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Strait are fully ensured.

On the same day, Russia and China vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution on the Strait of Hormuz. The draft resolution called on States to coordinate defense "commensurate with the circumstances" to ensure the passage of ships, which meant escorting civilian ships and deterring attempts to close or block the strait.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai, said that the Iranian authorities had facilitated the procedure for the movement of vessels of friendly countries through the Strait of Hormuz.
