A state of emergency has been introduced in 11 municipalities that were most affected by the floods in Dagestan. On April 7, the head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, told Russian President Vladimir Putin about this at a meeting on the situation in Dagestan.

"In total, up to one and a half million residents of the republic have entered the emergency zone, taking into account 11 municipalities. At the same time, 6,229 people were evacuated, including 1,300 children. As it was said, 55 temporary accommodation facilities have been deployed, more than 1,800 people, in which 700 people are actually accommodated, the rest are placed with the next of kin," he said.

The Head of the republic added that 842 significant social facilities were affected by the bad weather. Also, more than 6 thousand residential buildings were damaged. Melikov added that significant damage had been caused to the agro-industrial complex. In addition, floods caused great damage to roads in Dagestan, more than 180 sections of roads remain flooded.

According to the head of the region, the epidemiological situation in the republic is calm. Sanitation of the territories will begin as soon as the water runs out.

Vladimir Putin, at a meeting on the elimination of the consequences of an emergency in the region on April 7, said that flood victims in Dagestan should be provided with all necessary support. Putin also instructed to keep flood consequences under control, including the epidemiological and sanitary situation in the affected areas.

Due to heavy rainfall on April 5, the Gedzhukhsky reservoir overflowed in Dagestan, as a result of which an earthen rampart was breached. A pregnant woman and a child died after they were swept away by the current. In addition, an apartment building in Makhachkala collapsed.

Also, in the Derbent district of Dagestan, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated in four settlements due to a dam break. Most of the evacuees stayed with relatives, while the rest stayed in six specially prepared facilities.
