The flagship crossover GAC S9 began to be certified in Russia
GAC has started certifying its new flagship crossover, the S9, in Russia. The five-meter SUV has a sequential hybrid powerplant and a two-row interior. Sales of the model are expected to start this summer, according to the Chinese Cars portal on April 7.
According to his source, the GAC S9 crossover has received several certificates of conformity in Russia, which are necessary for obtaining Vehicle Type Approval (OTT) and the start of mass sales in the territory of the EAEU countries. The Chinese-built S9 is certified.
The documents indicate that the crossover is powered exclusively by electric motors. Thus, especially for Russia, the crossover was made a hybrid of a sequential type, the note says. At the same time, in China, the S9 is a parallel hybrid (the internal combustion engine can communicate directly with the wheels). However, sequential hybrids are more popular in the Russian Federation, as they are subject to some of the benefits relevant to electric vehicles.
The company officially announced plans to bring the GAC S9 crossover to the Russian market in January. The length of the model is 50-60 mm. In China, the SUV is offered in five- and six-seat versions, but in Russia only the classic five-seat version will be presented, the portal notes. The model will be equipped with a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine, which works as a generator and feeds a battery with a capacity of 44.5 kWh (power reserve in purely electric mode reaches 252 km), the output of two electric motors is 340 hp.
Earlier, on April 2, sales of the new GAC Aion V electric crossover started in Russia. The model is offered in two trim levels at a price of 4.3 million and 4.6 million rubles, respectively. The GAC Aion V has an electric motor in the front with a capacity of 204 hp (210 Nm), acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.9 seconds.
