There have been 209 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 209 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 20 people were killed and 241 injured. 14 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 7 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 52 accidents, 22 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 30 outside their area of operation, six pedestrians were killed, 49 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 14 underage pedestrians, nine of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.
24 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 28 more road users, including three children, needed medical help. The reason for 14 bus accidents were traffic violations committed by their drivers.
There were also 27 accidents involving minors, in which 29 young road users were injured, including eight passengers, two cyclists and three motor transport drivers. There are no dead children.
In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures continue in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions or a difficult flood situation. For example, in the Republic of Dagestan, due to rising water levels in the Darvagchai River and flooding of the road, bus traffic was temporarily restricted throughout the night until morning on the section of the federal highway R-217 Kavkaz from 915 km to 920 km. In addition, sections of 13 regional highways remain flooded in the region, as a result of which traffic is temporarily suspended on them.
In the Moscow region, flooding occurred on 17 regional highways as a result of the flood. Now, until the level of the spring waters drops, the movement of vehicles on them is temporarily stopped. A similar situation has developed in the Lipetsk region, where traffic is temporarily blocked on 18 regional highways. In the Samara region and the Republic of Bashkortostan, due to rising water, traffic on two regional highways was temporarily stopped - one in each of the regions. In the Altai Territory, high water caused flooding of sections on seven regional highways, as a result of which traffic was temporarily stopped on them.
"When planning long-distance trips in the spring, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that drivers and passengers monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from places where traffic is blocked or restricted. In case of a negative forecast or an unfavorable flood situation, we recommend postponing the trip to a later date until weather conditions and traffic conditions improve. If you do have to go on the road, we advise you to think in advance and determine for yourself possible options for bypassing problematic areas," advised Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that an increased speed limit will be introduced on a number of sections of the M-4 "Don" and M-11 "Neva" highways from April 13. Speed limits were introduced in winter, they will be lifted due to the onset of favorable weather conditions and to ensure more comfortable movement, the state-owned company explained.
