Human health cannot be determined by one indicator, since the body is a complex interconnected system. Kirill Masliev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, member of the State Council Commission "Long and Active Life", Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the RUDN University, told Izvestia on April 7 about the key factors affecting the state of the body.

"It is impossible to single out a single "main" indicator of health, since the human body is a very complex self—regulating system. A breakdown in one place is fraught with an avalanche—like effect," the expert noted.

According to him, several factors play an important role at once: the balance of vitamins and trace elements, the absence of chronic inflammation, normal hormone levels and blood pressure, as well as a balanced diet, physical activity and quality sleep. At the same time, mental state, energy level and physical endurance are equally important.

Masliev stressed that a complete rejection of "harmful" food is not always justified. In his opinion, rare indulgences can be useful, as they support the work of enzymatic systems and allow the body to retain the ability to process different types of food.

The expert also drew attention to the role of stress. Short-term stressful situations can be useful, as they activate the body's adaptive mechanisms and help it respond faster to changes. However, prolonged exposure to stress, on the contrary, has a devastating effect.

According to the doctor, chronic stress depletes the body and can lead to brain disorders, in particular damage to the prefrontal cortex, responsible for controlling emotions and behavior. This increases the risk of emotional burnout and the development of depressive states.

On April 4, Varvara Veretyuk, a gastroenterologist and therapist at Invitro, reported that taking large doses of vitamin C is not always justified and may not have the expected effect. She noted that with moderate intake (30-180 mg per day), 70-90% of the vitamin is absorbed, and doses over 100 mg lead to tissue saturation.
