In Britain, doctors went on strike over salaries and the number of staff
A six-day doctors' strike began in the UK after a trade union organization rejected the government's proposal to raise salaries for medical staff and expand the number of staff, which did not suit it. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 7.
Last week, it became known about the government's proposal to raise doctors' salaries by 3.5%, which would ensure income growth above the inflation rate in 2026, and income levels would increase by 35% over the next three years. In addition, the government announced its readiness to finance the creation of 1,000 additional places necessary for staff retraining.
However, the British doctors' union considered such a government proposal insufficient, since it does not fully solve the long-standing problem of low income growth for doctors.
The strike will last until the morning of April 13, the agency said.
The Guardian newspaper reported on March 28 that the UK could face a shortage of medicines within weeks if the conflict in the Middle East drags on. It was noted that the Middle East conflict disrupted the supply of many important raw materials. Shipping medicines by sea has become more difficult due to Iran's almost complete blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
