Every fifth remote employee in Russia works in the common space of an apartment, for example in the living room or kitchen. Olga Manukovskaya, a designer at Level Group, told Izvestia on April 9 how to create a quiet work area even in such conditions.

According to a survey by developer Level Group, about 22% of remote employees in Russia do not have a separate office and are forced to work in a shared space. In such conditions, the issue of noise insulation and zoning becomes especially relevant.

"The basic and simplest scenario for zoning a workspace is desktop acoustic screens made of felt or pressed felt," Manukovskaya noted.

According to her, such structures are available in different formats and can be attached to a table or wall, as well as mounted on special bases. Additionally, mobile screens can be used to quickly isolate the workplace from external noise.

The expert also recommended paying attention to furniture that performs the function of partitions. Cabinets with books or textile elements not only divide the space, but also contribute to sound absorption.

"Books and textiles themselves perfectly disperse sound, and the cabinet becomes a multifunctional element that visually separates the work area from the rest of the space," Manukovskaya explained.

For more thorough zoning, the designer advises using modular glass partitions, which allow you to preserve natural lighting and visual lightness of the space. Such structures are assembled in a few hours without complicated work and, if necessary, can be easily dismantled.

In addition, additional sound insulation is provided by suspended acoustic panels and ceiling structures that reduce noise levels by absorbing sound waves. According to the expert, the best effect is achieved by combining various solutions, which allows you to create a comfortable workspace even in a shared apartment.

Independent HR expert Anna Alikova said on April 1 that Generation Z is increasingly abandoning the classic fixed-hour work schedule, prioritizing mental health and flexibility. According to her, the problem is not the number of working hours, but the rigidity of the format itself.
