The award of the Union of Theatrical Figures of Russia recognizes performances created by professional groups in Moscow for almost a quarter of a century, once a year they choose a production that has become a real highlight of the season.
"The award is called the "Highlight of the Season", and this is not accidental. The theater is like a framework: actors, directors, scripts, scenery, and the very "nail" that holds this framework is a performance that gathers a full house," the correspondent said.
Among the finalists is the opera "Andre Chenier" by the Moscow Academic Musical Theater. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko. The production combines poetic revolution and tragedy on the big stage, and Umberto Giordano's music enhances the drama. Instead of words of gratitude, a song was played from the stage.
"Let's be happy for our colleagues, for this crystal nail," said People's Artist of the Russian Federation Alyona Yakovleva.
Another nominee is "Arcadia" by Pyotr Fomenko's workshop. This is a thought-provoking performance, where time, science and love are intertwined, and jokes are juxtaposed with philosophical dialogues.
The shortlist also includes the production "Petersburg - Petrograd – Leningrad" by the Elena Kamburova Theater of Music and Poetry, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
The play "Courier" by the Drama and Directing Center based on the story by Karen Shakhnazarov tells about a young generation looking for their way in history. Actor Alexander Fokin noted that this is a story about modern youth in a modern language, but the action takes place in 1986.
The production of "The Landau Sun" by the Vakhtangov Theater turns science into drama: the fate of the protagonist becomes an emotional experiment where physics meets human destinies. Kirill Krok, the director of the theater, emphasized that this is a play about the fate of a Soviet scientist, a great physicist who came up with his theory.
The list ends with "Not on the list" directed by Vladimir Mashkov — a story about a man at war, his choice and responsibility for every act.
Vladimir Mashkov, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Union of Theatrical Figures of Russia, noted that all the performances are very worthy, and the only new news is always talent.
The play "Courier" was declared the winner. It is he who will now be remembered as the main one in this theatrical year.
