Alarm bell: a schoolboy attacked a teacher with a knife in the Perm region

On Tuesday, April 7, a 17‑year-old teenager attacked his teacher with a knife at the entrance to school No. 5 before classes began. According to official data, the teacher received multiple stab wounds, her condition was assessed as extremely serious, and doctors were fighting for her life in the hospital. However, the woman died from her injuries. This was announced by the governor of the Perm Region Dmitry Makhonin.

"Unfortunately, despite all the efforts of the doctors, Olesya Petrovna Baguta, a teacher of Russian language and literature at Dobryanka School No. 5, could not be saved. I express my deep condolences to the family, friends and colleagues," the head of the region wrote.

The attacker was detained by police officers at the scene, the investigative authorities are working on the spot and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The incident occurred around 08:00 local time. The regional Interior Ministry clarified that the victim was the teenager's homeroom teacher, with whom, according to preliminary data, she could have had personal or academic disagreements.

Governor Dmitry Makhonin reported the incident on the Telegram channel, stressing that law enforcement agencies and a complex of emergency services are working on the school grounds, including a multi‑profile air ambulance team that flew from Perm to assist the victim.

Materials from the scene have already been sent to the investigative authorities. A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime provided for in the attempted murder part of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The police are investigating the motives and possible causes of the attack. Among the versions considered are the personal hostility of the attacker and internal tension between the student and the teacher.

The school and municipal authorities reported that the educational process in other classes continues as normal, and students are provided with psychological and social support. Law enforcement agencies urged the public not to disseminate unverified information and to wait for the official results of the investigation.

The deceased Russian language teacher Olesya Baguta devoted almost 30 years to pedagogy. She started her career at school as a young teacher and over the years has earned the respect of colleagues and students.

In 2018, Olesya Petrovna became the winner of the Teacher of the Year competition, while she herself admitted that the most important thing for her was the assessment of her students, not the awards and recognition of the jury.

Teaching wasn't just a profession for her—it was her whole life's work. Olesya Baguta inherited her love for education and pedagogy from her mother, Tamara, who also worked as a teacher all her life.

Colleagues described her as a demanding but fair mentor, able to engage students in the subject and support everyone in a difficult situation. For many students, she was not only a teacher, but also a mentor who understood and heard her students.

A series of attacks in educational institutions

The incident in Perm occurred against the background of a series of attacks in Russian educational institutions recorded in recent months. So, on March 26, a 15-year-old student of a Chelyabinsk school attacked a classmate with a crossbow and a signal pistol, after which he jumped out of a fourth-floor window. Both teenagers and several teachers were injured.

On March 16, in the village of Sverdlovsky near Moscow, a seventh-grader attacked a peer with a knife. It was noted that the conflict occurred in the morning before classes. The boy inflicted three wounds on a classmate, and then went to class. The victim was hospitalized and operated on.

On February 19, a seventh-grader attacked a classmate with a knife at a school in Alexandrovsk, Perm Krai. The teenager inflicted several blows to the body and neck area. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition, and was subsequently evacuated to a specialized medical facility.

In February, attacks also occurred in Ufa: one of the students carried out an armed attack with an air gun on classmates and a teacher, another teenager attacked students of a medical university with a knife. Several people were injured.

A number of incidents have been recorded in other regions. In Krasnoyarsk, a schoolgirl set fire to a fire after discussing her actions on social media. In Anapa, an attack took place at an industrial college — a security officer was killed, and there are wounded.
