In the regions of Finland located on the border with Russia, about 315 companies have gone bankrupt since April 2025. This was reported on April 7 by RIA Novosti with reference to data from the Konkurssilista bankruptcy monitoring portal.

According to the agency, the construction industry and the hotel and restaurant sector were the most vulnerable, with the highest number of closures recorded.

In the south of the country, 45 enterprises have stopped operating, including in the wholesale and retail trade, in South Karelia the number of bankruptcies has reached 34, in the North — 79, and the real estate market has also suffered.

In Kainuu, 25 cases of closure were registered, mainly in the segment of administrative services. In Northern Ostrobothnia, more than 90 companies went bankrupt, including in construction and trade.

On March 31, it became known that houses in the border area with Russia, which is popular with Russians, are being massively put up for sale in Finland. Since July 2025, there has been a ban on concluding real estate transactions for citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus. However, the restriction does not apply to apartments in apartment buildings, as they do not fall under the definition of real estate.
