The approach to ecology as a personal achievement has long been lost and completely outdated. This was announced on April 7 by environmental expert and hydrogeologist Zhora Kavanosyan.

"Today, ecology is smoothly flowing into the category of everyday services, as mundane as delivering food or calling a taxi. Businesses and digital platforms are increasingly taking on environmental solutions: they are returning packaging, optimizing routes, and introducing closed cycles. As a result, caring for nature no longer requires heroism and extra hours of life," he said in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».

The expert noted that previously environmental behavior was perceived as an individual effort: people sorted waste, searched for reception points and abandoned the usual amenities. For a long time, it was activists who shaped the environmental agenda.

Kavonosyan pointed out that radical calls for a complete ban on pesticides or GMOs are often not accompanied by an analysis of the consequences. In his opinion, the abrupt exclusion of such technologies can lead to lower yields and an increase in farmland.

He also stressed that activism is mainly based on public statements, whereas real environmental problems are solved through systemic mechanisms, thus shifting the eco-agenda into the field of management.

Among the most effective measures, the expert identified a reduction in the use of a personal car, a reduction in the frequency of air travel, a reduction in food waste, an increase in the energy efficiency of housing, an extension of the service life of things and waste sorting. He specified that sorting of garbage can be simplified to separation of organic and plastic waste.

Kavanosyan clarified that today there is no need to sacrifice comfort for the sake of caring for nature, since there are ready-made and affordable practices that allow you to add eco-habits to your daily life.

On January 23, hydrogeologist Kavanosyan informed Izvestia about environmentally harmful household habits. Despite government "green" programs, the low environmental discipline of the population exacerbates the situation, while many believe that personal actions do not matter. However, it is the mass nature of household solutions that determines the overall effect. Among the most harmful non-obvious habits, the expert singled out overeating, leading to huge amounts of organic waste in landfills, where they emit methane and spoil recyclables.
