Fico accused the Ukrainian leadership of damaging Europe's energy security
Ukraine's political leadership is harming Europe's energy security. This was announced on April 7 by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
"Instead of the EU and the European Commission slamming their fist on the table, they are tolerating new Ukrainian attacks on energy infrastructure, which in the current crisis is energy suicide," Fico said.
He also stated that he did not understand why the EU would not refuse to provide Ukraine with a military loan, "when he sees the harmful steps of the Ukrainian political leadership." Fico noted that Slovakia is not involved in this loan, and he called Kiev's behavior towards Europe egregious.
The Prime Minister of Slovakia added that he no longer intends to listen to moral lectures from the EU about the purchase of Russian energy resources, pointing to the growth of exports of Russian liquefied natural gas to Western Europe. In addition, he said that due to the deliberate malicious steps of Ukraine and the war of the United States and Israel against Iran, Russia benefits the most, as oil and gas prices have risen sharply.
On April 4, Fico said that the EU and the European Commission are starting to look like a suicide ship in matters of energy security. He also called on the EU and the EC to immediately resume dialogue with Russia and create a political environment for individual countries of the union to replenish oil and gas reserves.
On the same day, the finance ministers of five EU countries — Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Austria — called for a tax on excess profits of energy companies amid a sharp rise in fuel prices due to the war in Iran.
In addition, European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen on March 31 urged EU countries to prepare for a possible energy crisis that threatens them. He clarified that its duration and "depth" are still difficult to predict.
