- The Federation Council called the statement of the Armenian speaker on withdrawal from the EAEU incorrect
The statement by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, about a possible withdrawal from the EAEU in the event of an increase in Russian gas prices looks incorrect. This was announced on April 6 by Konstantin Kosachev, Vice Speaker of the Federation Council.
"The very formulation of the question in this way looks incorrect," he wrote in the MACH messenger.
Kosachev recalled that on April 1, at talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin provided up-to-date data on fuel costs. In Europe, a thousand cubic meters of gas costs more than $600, while for Armenia the price is $177.5 for the same volume.
According to Kosachev, such a price gives Yerevan serious competitive advantages, helps the economy develop and ensures socio-political stability. The vice Speaker believes that Armenian politicians should appreciate Moscow's support, rather than speculating about a hypothetical price change.
In a video message on April 4, published by Sputnik Armenia, Simonyan stated that the scenario of the republic's withdrawal from the CSTO and the EAEU is currently unlikely. Simonyan stated that if a decision is made to raise gas prices for the republic, Armenia will make its decision and finally withdraw from both the CSTO, the EAEU and other structures, but he does not think it will come to that.
