The Ukrainian authorities should have agreed long ago and made territorial concessions in order to preserve both the country and people's lives. This was stated on April 6 by former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller in an interview with the Internet portal Wirtualna Polska.

He noted that in this situation it is foolish to stubbornly insist on the opposite, since a decision to make concessions would really guarantee a cease-fire.

"I really don't understand this stubbornness when it comes to land. <...> The loss of land is not the worst thing. <...> Death destroys forever, but changing borders does not," the politician said in a comment.

It is necessary to conclude a peace agreement "as soon as possible," the former head of government believes. Miller added that Poland's example shows how even after the loss of territories, the state has the opportunity to "revive," she added.Газета.Ru ".

"If I were the Ukrainian authorities, I would choose this solution, even if it were temporary, but one that guarantees the cessation of firing. This means that people will stop dying, and we will be able to start rebuilding Ukraine," he said.

On March 26, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky refused to withdraw troops from the territories of Donbass in exchange for security guarantees from the United States. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on the Colombian radio Caracol on March 27 that the Ukrainian leader did not want to give up power and was ready to subject the people to new horrors in order to preserve it.

On March 28, Austrian military expert Colonel Markus Reisner noted that Ukraine would have to make territorial concessions in any scenario of the conflict ending. Reisner pointed out that Ukraine's biggest strategic mistake was to abandon negotiations in the summer of 2022. In his opinion, this was due to the unwillingness of the country's leadership to retreat after "successes in Kiev, Kharkiv and Kherson" due to "understandable" euphoria.
