The Moscow City Court has declared lawful the refusal of parole to the former Minister of Culture of Crimea Vera (Arina) Novoselskaya, who is serving time for receiving a particularly large bribe. This was reported to Izvestia on April 6 in the press service of the instance.

"The Moscow City Court upheld the district court's ruling, and dismissed the appeal," the source said.

In February, the Lublin Court in Moscow rejected Novoselskaya's application for parole. During the meeting, she stated that she accepted the verdict and realized her guilt, although the description from the pre-trial detention center indicated the opposite and added that she wanted to return to her family. The prosecutor, in turn, opposed the satisfaction of the convict's request, specifying that she had not paid the fine.

Novoselskaya was sentenced to 10 years in a general regime penal colony on July 18, 2023. She was also fined five times the amount of the bribe, which amounted to more than 129 million rubles. Novoselskaya has held the post of Minister of Culture of Crimea since February 2014. The person involved was detained in November 2021 in Crimea and taken to Moscow.

In April 2024, Novoselskaya applied to serve in the special military operation area. She made that decision three months ago. Novoselskaya noted that she hopes for an affirmative answer to her application as soon as possible.
