Over the past weekend, 408 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 39 people were killed and 494 injured. 31 of the dead were drivers or passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 6 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, in the evening, on 37 km of the federal highway R-217 (the entrance to the city of Cherkessk from the federal highway M-29 Kavkaz), a 20-year-old passenger car driver overook into the oncoming lane, where he collided with two other passenger cars. The driver and passenger of the first oncoming car were killed in the car accident, and the culprit of the collision, his passenger and another passenger from the car with the dead ended up in the hospital with injuries. The culprit of the incident had less than one year of driving experience, besides, at the end of November last year, by a court decision, he was deprived of the right to drive a vehicle for 18 months for failing to comply with the requirement to undergo a medical examination for intoxication.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on citizens who have not been trained in driving schools and have not received the right to drive vehicles in accordance with the established procedure, or who have been deprived of such a right, to refrain from trying to get behind the wheel and drive onto public roads. With such reckless actions, they endanger not only their personal lives and health, but also the lives and health of other road users.

In addition, over the weekend, 16 bus accidents were recorded on the roads of Russia, in which there were no fatalities, but 18 road users needed medical attention. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 96 accidents involving pedestrians, eight people were killed, and another 90 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 16 child pedestrians, 14 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 34 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 62 outside their area of operation.

69 accidents involving minors were registered, 79 young road users were injured, including 43 passengers and nine motor transport drivers. Two children were killed, one of whom was a passenger in a passenger car, the other was a motorcyclist.

So, in the Krasnodar Territory, late in the evening, on 155 km of the federal highway R-217 Kavkaz, a 37-year-old passenger car driver collided with another passenger car driving in front of him in the same direction, driven by a 33-year-old motorist. After the impact, the second car hit a metal barrier fence on the road, and the first car left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The accident killed the culprit of the collision and a six-month-old boy, a passenger of the second passenger vehicle, who, in violation of safety regulations, was transported without using a child restraint and seat belts in the arms of his mother, who was sitting in the back seat. The woman herself was hospitalized with injuries, and the 33-year-old driver was sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical attention.

In one of the villages of the Tver region, in the evening, a 28-year-old drunk motorist, driving a car without a driver's license, drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a 15-year-old schoolboy from Moscow on an off-road motorcycle, which is a sports equipment (pit bike). Due to his young age, the teenager also did not have a driver's license, and besides, he did not have the right to ride a pit bike on public roads. The boy died, and the driver who hit him initially fled the scene of the accident, but he was soon found. It was established that the motorcycle belonged to the minor's father, who did not give his son permission to drive it, and the teenager took the vehicle for a "ride" without asking.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting driving cars and motor vehicles without the appropriate rights and skills.

The department drew the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for providing the opportunity to drive a car or motor transport to children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category. The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of minors, especially during the spring break days currently taking place in schools, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users.

Mopeds and motorcycles on public roads can be driven no earlier than the age of 16. Cross—country motorcycles and pitbikes, which are sports equipment, should be used only on specialized tracks and only for motorsport, including for young athletes. It is strictly forbidden to use them on ordinary roads, as well as in populated areas.

"We remind motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior behind the wheel. Avoid risky driving, speeding, sudden lane changes, overtaking, and other dangerous maneuvers. We draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for the Promotion of road Safety and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Valery Goryukhanov, a member of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development, said on April 3 that the experience of some regions banning the sale of gasoline to children could be extended to the whole of Russia. The parliamentarian noted that in a number of Russian regions such restrictions were introduced to combat the riding of minors on pit bikes on the roads.
