The therapist explained the reasons for constant fatigue even after rest
A constant feeling of fatigue, which does not go away even after a good night's sleep and rest, can be a sign that signals disorders in the body. On April 8, the therapist of the SM Clinic, Shota Kalandiya, told Izvestia about how to improve your sleep.
First of all, it is necessary to exclude deficient conditions — lack of iron, vitamin D, and B vitamins. These substances play a key role in energy metabolism, nervous system and muscle function. Their deficiency can be manifested not only by fatigue, but also by decreased concentration, irritability and dizziness.
"An equally important factor is the quality of sleep. Even if a person sleeps 7-8 hours, sleep may be fragmented or shallow. For example, with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, short-term respiratory arrest occurs, which is why the body does not get proper rest," the doctor noted.
According to him, among the endocrine causes, it is worth noting disorders of the thyroid gland, in particular hypothyroidism. In this state, metabolic processes slow down, energy levels decrease, and a feeling of lethargy and apathy appears.
"Another possible reason is chronic stress. Constantly elevated cortisol levels deplete the body's resources, which eventually leads to a feeling of "exhaustion," added Kalandia.
Fatigue can also be associated with a sedentary lifestyle, an unbalanced diet and insufficient water intake. In some cases, it becomes one of the first symptoms of chronic diseases.
"We can talk, for example, about diabetes mellitus or prediabetic conditions in which glucose uptake is disrupted and cells experience "energy starvation." Chronic diseases of the cardiovascular system, including arterial hypertension. The cause may be chronic inflammatory diseases both from the gastrointestinal tract (gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease) and systemic autoimmune processes," the therapist emphasized.
If fatigue persists for several weeks and affects the quality of life, it is important not to ignore it, but to consult a doctor and undergo a basic examination, concluded Kalandia.
Alexander Kazachenko, PhD, somnologist at the SM Clinic in St. Petersburg, named ways to improve sleep quality without medication on April 2. According to the expert, the first thing to do is to give up a heavy and greasy dinner.
