In the Derbent district of Dagestan, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated in four settlements due to a dam break. This was announced on April 6 in the main directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the republic.

"Yesterday, in the Derbent district, due to an increase in the water level in the Gejuk reservoir, a breakthrough occurred at a complex of hydraulic structures. For preventive purposes, more than 4 thousand people were evacuated from 4 residential districts falling into the flood zone," the Telegram channel said.

The district administration clarified that most of the evacuees were staying with their relatives, while the rest were staying in six specially prepared facilities. Hot meals and medical care are provided to all the injured.

In addition, two people died in the flood zone due to a strong current between the villages of Mammadkala and Gejukh. The water also washed away several cars.

As a result of heavy rainfall on April 5, the Gedzhukhsky reservoir overflowed in Dagestan, which caused an earthen rampart to be breached. A pregnant girl and a child died after they were swept away by the current. In addition, an apartment building in Makhachkala collapsed.

On the same day, Izvestia correspondent Murad Magomedov reported that heavy rains had again led to flooding in Makhachkala, where the streets were flooded with water. According to reports, the water level rises after each new rain, which makes it difficult for vehicles and pedestrians.
