The debt of Russians on loans for the first time exceeded 45 trillion rubles

According to the Bank of Russia, the total volume of loans and borrowings of Russians reached 45 trillion rubles for the first time. This became known on April 6.

This indicator is given as of January 1, 2026, RIA Novosti reports.

It was noted that during the quarter, loans and borrowings of Russians increased by 2.2% or by 988 billion rubles. In the debt structure, almost half (48.1%) were mortgage loans worth 21.7 trillion rubles, about a third (29.7%) were consumer loans worth 13.4 trillion rubles, and car loans accounted for 6.8% — 3 trillion rubles.

The rest accounted for accrued interest, loans from microfinance and other organizations, other loans and similar obligations.
