Benito Mussolini's summer residence in Rimini was bought by the Riccione Municipality for €1.2 million. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on April 4.

"This is done in order to prevent Mussolini nostalgics from seizing the villa. There are still numerous supporters of the dictator in Italy, including in the ruling Fratelli d'Italia party of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The Riccione authorities do not deny their complicated past, but try to critically reflect on it through culture," said Riccione Mayor Daniela Angelini.

Villa built in 1890, the villa was built in a typical style for the area. In 1934, the building became the summer residence of Benito Mussolini and was used by him for family vacations.

The villa is now used by the municipality as a cultural and exhibition center. In the future, a center for intangible cultural heritage and an archive will be located there. The city authorities want to officially assign the name "Villa Mussolini" to the building.

The newspaper Il Fatto quotidiano reported in June last year that the administration of the city of Saggiovanni Rotondo, which is located in southern Italy, revoked the title of honorary citizen Benito Mussolini, who headed the fascist government since 1922. Despite the fact that a representative of the opposition made the proposal in the administration, the decision was made unanimously.
