- Sobyanin spoke about the work of neonatologists and support for premature babies in Moscow
On April 5, Russia celebrates Neonatologist's Day, a professional holiday for doctors who treat and care for newborns, including premature babies. This was announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in his channel in the MAX messenger.
"Taking care of the health of the youngest patients — newborns, including premature babies - is a responsible and extremely difficult job. In recent years, Moscow neonatologists have shown outstanding results in caring for children born prematurely. Today, in modern maternity hospitals and perinatal centers, they save 99 percent of premature babies," Sergei Sobyanin wrote.
He noted that in 2025, the capital's doctors treated more than five thousand babies born prematurely. Early diagnosis was one of the key factors. Neonatal screening allows you to detect severe diseases before symptoms appear. Currently, all newborns are being examined for 38 nosologies.
Special attention is paid to children born prematurely, weighing less than 1.5 kilograms, as well as those who suffered a critical condition in the first days of life. There is an Early Care project for such patients. The relevant centers operate on the basis of the children's urban clinical hospitals named after Z.A. Bashlyaeva and N.F. Filatov, the Morozovskaya DGKB and the Moscow Multidisciplinary Clinical Center "Kommunarka". They interact with 16 development centers.
"A multidisciplinary team of healthcare and social protection specialists works with each child and family. It includes doctors, teachers, speech therapists, psychologists, physical therapy instructors," Sergei Sobyanin added.
When a child turns three years old, specialists, if necessary, form an educational route and help him adapt to kindergarten.
