Biologists have rescued a three-week-old emaciated lion cub in southern California

In the US state of California, biologists have rescued a three-week-old mountain lion cub, which was found in an emaciated state in the Santa Monica Mountains without a mother. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on April 4.

"Biologists have suggested that his mother most likely moved to another den, abandoning the cub at the same time. The lion cub's health was deteriorating. He looked weak and was losing weight," the publication says.

After consultation and assessment of the animal's condition, the specialists decided to intervene. They took the lion cub and were leaving him. The rescued animal eventually received the nickname Crimson and came under the care of the Auckland Zoo.

The scientists noted that when rescued, the lion cub seemed "extremely tiny" — it could fit in a folded human palm.

The Guardian also reported on January 23 how a sea lion was rescued in the United States after two bullets were found in its head. An animal named Confetti was found and rescued from Ballona Creek in California on January 5. During the initial examination, an X-ray revealed two bullet wounds in the animal's head, which, according to experts, indicates a second case in which the lion miraculously escaped death.
