In meteorology, the concept of "effective temperature" is used. This indicator is calculated using a special formula that takes into account the actual air temperature, humidity level and wind strength. This was announced on April 5 by Marina Makarova, a leading employee of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia.

"There is a so-called effective temperature. The formula includes the usual temperature, humidity and wind. These additives come with different labels. Humidity increases the temperature by feeling, that is, if the air is humid, it seems to us that it is actually warmer than the thermometers show. And the wind acts with a minus sign, that is, if there is a strong wind, it will seem to us that the weather is cooler," explained Makarova in an interview with TASS.

The expert also added that with each increase in wind speed by 1 m/s, the temperature feels like it drops by 1 °C. For example, if it is -5 °C outside and the wind is blowing at a speed of 10 m/s, then for a person it will feel like -15 °C. The effect of humidity on the perceived temperature is less significant, but dry and wet heat are perceived differently.

The summer of 2026 may be abnormally hot in some regions of Russia. Forecasters predict that in June the average values will exceed the climatic norm. Also in July, higher temperatures are expected in the east of Russia. However, it may be colder in Primorye and Sakhalin than last year.
