Residents of apartment buildings may face fines for operating a washing machine at night. This was announced on April 5 by an assistant professor at the Department of Administrative Law and Procedure at the O.E. Kutafin University (MGUA). Ruben Hovsepyan.

"For violating silence, a citizen in Moscow faces a warning or a fine of up to 2 thousand rubles. If a washing machine makes a distinct noise or strong vibration at night, it falls under an administrative offense in the capital," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The expert explained that the main problem lies not so much in the sound itself as in the vibration that spreads through the floors, pipes and walls of the building. This is especially felt at night, when neighbors from below or behind the wall can clearly hear the noise. According to Hovsepyan, the sound level during laundry wringing can reach about 70 dB, which is higher than the permissible nighttime values for apartment buildings.
