The capital Bratislava celebrated the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the city from fascism. Footage from the venue of the April 4 event is published by Izvestia.

A commemorative event on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava from fascism was held at the Slavin Memorial Complex.

"On this day, traditionally, we, employees of the Russian Embassy in Slovakia, representatives of the Slovak public, and our friends come here to Slavin Hill, to the memorial cemetery of Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of the Slovak capital," said Russian Ambassador to Slovakia Sergey Andreev.

He noted that almost 7 thousand Red Army soldiers are buried in this cemetery, every 10th of whom liberated Slovakia. The Russian Ambassador added that this is a significant day on which the two countries recall the pages of their common history.

On March 15, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced his intention to take part in Victory Day celebrations in Moscow again.

In addition, on January 18, Fico said that the EU member states forbade him to fly over their territories when he was heading to Russia to celebrate Victory Day in Moscow. However, now "thousands of people are talking about the need to have a dialogue with Moscow."
