Erdogan declares deadlock in the conflict in the Middle East

The conflict in Iran is leading to a geostrategic impasse. This was stated on April 4 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during telephone talks with NATO Secretary General Marco Rutte.

"During the conversation, President Erdogan stated that the process related to Iran is moving towards a geostrategic impasse, and called on the international community to step up efforts to end the war," the Anadolu agency writes.

Erdogan noted that NATO provides serious support to Turkey's air defense. He added that this solidarity once again showed the strength of the alliance. In addition, the president expressed hope that at the NATO summit, which will be held in Ankara on July 7-8, 2026, decisions will be made that can make the association even more stable.

On April 1, US President Donald Trump announced that he was seriously considering the US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to help in the conflict with Iran. According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance has never influenced him.

A day earlier, Trump said that the United States would no longer provide assistance in protecting the interests of states that refused to support a military operation against Iran.
