Plants with cocoa beans, from which chocolate is made, may disappear completely by 2050 due to climate problems. The Green Economy Coalition (GEC) warned about this on February 27, 2025.

"The countries that meet our demand for chocolate are in trouble due to unstable weather, extreme heat and devastating crop diseases. <...> Without serious intervention, the regions of West Africa where cocoa beans are grown may become completely unsuitable for production by 2050," the publication says.
